YAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!!! I loved this episode, so many great things to say, but first, a solid 5 Kilts for me, this was the warm blanket and cuddle I needed after last week’s trauma!!
My Good was so many things!! First off, Ed Speleers as Bonnet! My goodness, ol’ Jimmy has disappeared, I do not see him here at all, Ed has inhabited Bonnet as fully as Tobias did with BJR. The veneer of good natured charm he has is what makes him such a slippery devil. He can charm your pants off (Uuugghh!! Terrible pun) or slit your throat, and I’m honestly not sure which he would enjoy more.
Next, Claire and Bree having some wonderful one on one time, I love them bonding and having The Chat. The whole family together just tickles me pink, and Murtagh meeting Bree for the first time is just delightful!!
Lizzie macking on Ian is so freaking funny, I can’t even—keep it in your knickers, Lizzie!!
Finally, bee hunting with Bree and Jamie. It is so wonderful to finally have Jamie be able to BE A DAD, in the open. He knows he can’t replace Frank, and he’s a bit hesitant to tread on the ground there, but he’s finally able come out of The Dad Closet, and I LOVE it.
My Bad is that this episode was about 1/10th as long as I would like it to be. I want to just live in this glorious little slice of family life on the Ridge as long as frakking possible!!! I’m seperated from my parents right now, and I hate it, so to live vicariously through Bree reuniting with her family is such bittersweet sentiment for me, but it touches my heart.
Finally, my Great was Sophie. She carried the show the last three weeks, and this episode is no exception. THIS is why she was cast, this is why we ignore her *interesting* accent and brown eyes. I had serious doubts the first time we met her waaaaaay back in Season 2, and it took me until the middle of S3 to really start to enjoy her performance, and appreciate her as an actress. But here, this season, she has knocked it out of the park for me. She’s creeping in on Dramatic Territory on par with her parents when she returns from her encounter with Bonnet. The opening scene in particular, so quiet and calm, yet it stabs you right in the heart. The writers and director gut you in visceral simplicity, seeing Bree first with just a bloody nose and mussed hair, then the shaking, the reveal of blood on her petticoats, and finally, the bruises and abrasions from her brutal treatment. Her portrayal of shock, fragile denial, and just wanting it all to go away is as brilliant as it is painful. Then, from that extreme depth of grief and despair, we swing right into joy and elation upon meeting Jamie and reuniting with her mother, sheesh!! This episode is like an emotional boomerang. In any case, I can’t give any higher praise, Sophie Skelton is fantastic, and she has earned her Fraser colors?
One side note, Claire has even better goat porn than Father Fogden, omg, I WANT THE GOATS!!!!

Omg, I changed my mind… This episode isn’t just an Emotional Boomerang, it’s a Devastation Sandwich… I forgot about poor Roger getting the beat down from Papa Bear Jamie at the end… 🙁

Interesting theory Blake with the Native Americans taking Roger in and making him their own “Dances with Wolves.”

Hi Mary and Blake:

Phenomenal episode indeed! Five huge kilts for me: I love this episode, and can’t stop watching it.

This is the episode I think that everyone was anticipating, and it did not disappoint. The family togetherness was AMAZING!

Yes, I agree the Bad of the episode was Jamie caressing Bree’s cheek after peeing. Shudders. Okay, it’s not the OCD talking, it was just disgusting.

My good: Finally seeing Ian. So cute! And I swear I thought of both of you with that cute scene with Bree and Ian “Do they always call you “Young Ian”? And he and Lizzie were so cute.

The GREAT was Sophie Skelton as Bree. Wow, in my opinion, she totally brought it this episode. Right in the beginning of the show she totally broke my heart: Her portrayal of someone who was raped was so very authentic: I could feel her numbness, shock, her utter desire to wash it all away.

Her shaking and blaming herself was spot on.

Bree’s utter delight at meeting Jamie for the first time was so heartwarming (the unwashed hands aside). I could literally feel Jamie’s delight at seeing her.

This was the daughter that he longed for for so many years: This was the moment that he could finally be a dad to his child (the child he had to give away to someone else for her own benefit)

The “Call me Da” scene almost made me cry: It was so sweet. Of course Bree would feel disloyal to Frank. Jamie realizes this and suggests that Bree call him Da. He realizes that in Bree’s eyes Frank will always be her daddy, but “Da” will be something exclusive only to Jamie. That is to say, Bree would never associate
anyone else with that term of affection, only Jamie.

Even the quiet scenes between Bree and Jamie were amazing: The looks, and sweetness between them. And “My Darling.” Love it!

I could totally see the resemblance between them.

Just some thoughts.

Hi Blake and Mary…love your podcast and this site! Also, it has some of the most carefully thought out and considered viewer responses that I have heard or read. I am a “lurker”; but as a nurse I felt the need to comment on many folks’ thoughts & reactions on the big “eewwww” moment of this episode…Jamie touching Bree’s face after urinating.

I can’t say that I did not think of it also, at the time. However, my biggest EWWWW was and is my worry that Brianna will contract venereal disease from Stephen “I pay for my pleasures” Bonnet. Bonnet is a high risk carrier and Bree’s chances of catching syphillis or gonorrhea from Bonnet are pretty darn high, with no penicillin to treat either her or her child.( I don’t think Claire has any left and hasn’t had success to date with her mold growing bread experiments..that we know of).

I will take my chances with monogamous Jamie fingers anyday…thanks! ?
