Bear McCreary’s Skye Boat Song Theme tune for Outlander has been voted no 1 in MTV’s list of best TV Show opening sequences beating Game of Thrones and Jessica Jones.
Earlier this week, the show was crowned Radio Times Sci-Fi and Fantasy Show champion of 2015 and now, Outlander has topped MTV’s List
Bear McCreary’s arrangement of the Scottish folk tune, the Skye Boat Song finished ahead of Game of Thrones and third-placed Jessica Jones. The song, a traditional expression of Jacobitism, tells how Bonnie Prince Charlie escaped in a small boat after the defeat of his Jacobite rising of 1745, disguised as a serving maid. The tune is said to come from the Gaelic song ‘Cuachan nan Craobh’ or ‘The Cuckoo in the Grove’. Lyrically, there are two different versions of the song. The most well-known version is by Sir Harold Boulton. The lyrics for the Outlander theme, however, were adapted from a poem Robert Louis Stevenson penned which has traditionally been sung to the tune.

Here is the Extended Song for you to listen to.
Some of Season 2 is spent in France in the company of Bonnie Prince Charlie so this is really an apt win for Bear McCreary and is a great accolade for his great song and production of many great theme tunes.
