Well, I realize this will come as a shock to many but as a looooooongtime book reader I would have to say that I feel that the show’s interpretation of Frank and his marriage to Claire is far superior to those of a multitude of readers. The concept of Claire suggesting a discreet open marriage is much kinder to Claire than how things played out in the books. By the fifth re-read or so I didn’t much care for book-Claire. I found her to be hypocritical, bipolar and emotionally constipated. But I love and totally empathize with TV-Claire. I have truly enjoyed seeing Frank finally get a voice and the opportunity for people to see what he went through for 20 years. Frank was NEVER a threat to Jamie & Claire’s relationship. He was simply a tragic man who was denied his one true love by a fantastical happenstance through no fault of his own. He loved and cared for a child who was not his own and was a good father to that child while her mother was absent. He was entitled to every moment of pain, frustration and anger that the writers gave him. I feel the show portrayed him in a very fair and balanced manner.
