You do realize that John and Jamie are likely going to be on opposite sides of the war in a few years. Willie will be old enough to fight by then as well and with a step-father and an uncle in the army, he’ll also have an interest in the war.

If blankets shared with the tribal peoples helped spread small pox and measles, why couldn’t the doll, handled by people exposed to the measles in Cross Creek not bring measles to the Mueller’s? More likely, Tommy was exposed – the Pastor stated that Herr and Frau Mueller had the measles previously, and so were immune – while he and his father were in Cross Creek, and he brought the measles to Petronella and baby Klara. All very sad. 🙁

The doll, or anything they got from Cross Creek may have carried the Measles Virus. A “Fomite” is any nonliving object or substance capable of carrying infectious organisms and then transferring them from one individual to another: clothing and bedding are common sources of contamination.
