Outlander Cast Hosts Mary and Blake discuss everything YOU had to say about First Wife.
In this episode, Blake flies solo without Mary and does a half way decent job. He chats Laoghaire, why wee Ian doesn’t have a boat, the difference between teasers and emotionally manipulative cliffhangers, the difference between the fight and THAT fight, and much more!

Argh! I get so frustrated hearing some of the comments, especially those coming from book readers. I sometimes think folks read the books and create their own story in their heads and then expect the show to reflect that version. Every lie that Jamie told in the show he told in the book. After everything that he went through during that 20 year separation he came out with a dark side that will be with him throughout the entire series. He was not a gallant knight in shining armor in the book and I don’t expect him to be in the show. I still love him 🙂
Blake, Jamie did NOT almost rape Claire. He was restraining her to keep her from running off before he could explain himself (cuz that’s what Claire does). He was desperate not to lose her. But the sexual interaction was initiated by CLAIRE. It was angry and passionate, but FULLY consensual. Get used to it because as one of your callers noted Claire has a penchant for hard, angry sex. It keeps her grounded. It keeps her from floating off into entropy. That. Is. Claire.
Some of the complaints I have heard can be resolved by 2 things. 1 – Watch the episode again; you missed something. 2 – Let the story develop. Don’t panic if you don’t see something at the exact moment that you are expecting because it often pops up in another place. There are things we will see in the next episode that will tie up some of the things that people are concerned with right now.
Jamie and perhaps Jenny ASSume that Laoghaire’s problems with intimacy with Jamie are a result of past abuse from her previous husbands. LET THE STORY UNFOLD. Wait until Laoghaire herself explains why when she’s ready.
My only interaction with Blake and Mary is listening to this Outlander podcast. Can someone please explain to me the Facebook issue that Blake kept mentioning? I kept feeling like I was out of the loop.
Sony (who owns and produces Outlander) contracted a company called “Counterfind” to seek out and shutdown facebook pages that have either sold, or promoted non licensed Outlander products.
Counterfind used a “bot” to indiscriminately comb through facebook to find any pages that did this or something like it – and without warning, shutdown a bunch of fan pages, including ours. If you had a shirt, or item that you used that included any kind of Outlander related item, your page was removed. Even if it was for charity or even if it was from 10 years ago.
It’s happened to many fan sites and there has been a huge uproar about it.
In fact you can read all about it in Lynette Rice’s latest article on EW.com
Thank you for explaining the Sony thing, I’ve been off facebook for months, and was curious about that as well…oh, and yeah, the rough sex all Claire…in the book, it makes that quite explicit, as we hear everything in Claire’s head while this is happening, and she’s PISSED, but into it…when Jenny assumes what she saw was rape, Claire tells her, “…no, it was both of us.” I can absolutely see how a non book reader could construe this as a rapey scene, but in the show, they try to fix the ambiguity by having Claire on top…
