Want to meet up with other Outlander fans to pass the #Droughtlander time? We round up some of the top Outlander events throughout the globe scheduled in 2018.
Looking into all of the Outlander-inspired events and travel related to our favorite show is one of my favorite things to dream about, and sometimes even do. What better way to wile away the days of #Droughtlander than to sit and visit and talk about all things Outlander with those who appreciate my obsessive love of the story. In 2017, I had the opportunity to have three very different meet-ups with other fans… well, besides my occasional coffee/lunch meet-up with my bestie and mentor in the Outlanderverse. First, I attended a local event held in Pittsburgh, Penn., for a lovely time that immersed me in Outlander. September brought an opportunity to re-convene with some of the other writers from Outlander Cast, where we chatted socially about the show, books and what’s to come. Finally, I closed out the year with one final meet-up—the Outlander Cast Season 3 finale party in Providence, Rhode Island. What a lovely weekend despite the weather hangups!
All this motivated me doubly to find out what was taking place in 2018 in the World of Outlander. So I have scoured the internet to compile as complete a list as possible events for you to choose something to do as a meet-up. Some are in the U.S., some are not. Some are day events, some are weekends with hotel stays. Maybe it’s just something you can keep in mind to follow along online to experience some of these events virtually. Though, I sincerely hope you can, at some time, attend an event in person to truly delve into the fandom. And away we go!
Capital City Comic Con — March 16-18, 2018 (Victoria, British Columbia)
Mid-March, you could go to Victoria, British Columbia, for a three-day event in the Victoria Conference Centre and Crystal Garden. You can purchase tickets for all three days or just the date that you would want to see Graham McTavish (Dougal)! I have been poring through the pages to see if I can pinpoint the date and time he will be appearing, but have not seen that information released yet. I recommend you contact ticket sales and confirm the schedule if you are looking for only a on- day pass to see Graham.
Sasnak City Outlander Convention — April 20-22, 2018 (Kansas City, Missouri)
Three days of Outlander-inspired activities await you at the Kansas City National World War I Museum in April. There are basic events for each day, but if you want to get in on some of the “extras,” you will be paying for each of those opportunities. The Sasnaks have provided a guest list including Steven Cree, Richard Rankin, Gary Lewis, Sophie Skelton (Bree), John Bell (Young Ian) and César Domboy (Fergus), as well as performances by The Highland Divas. Check the activities and tickets section of the webpage for times and availability.
The Dutch Gathering — April 28, 2018 (The Netherlands)
Head to the Kasteel De Vanenburg in The Netherlands for what promises to be (according to event organizers) “an afternoon and evening full of info, good food and fun together with various actors from Outlander. You have to be there!” Various bit player actors will also be on-hand to eat, drink and be merry with you.
Phoenix ComiCon — May 24-27 2018 (Phoenix, Arizona)
Do you live in the Southwest US? Do you like to visit there? If either applies to you, you may like to check out Phoenix ComicCon. Seems our man Graham McTavish really likes these events. He will be in attendance. Check the webpage for information regarding dates, times and availability.
Avalon Waterways — The Legendary Danube Author Cruise — June 5-15, 2018
The thought of spending a week on a small cruise ship on the Danube cruising from Prague to Budapest alone entices me. But if you’ve longed to get up close and personal with Diana Gabaldon herself, you may want to consider the Avalon Waterways. Diana, who is also the Godmother of an Avalon ship, will spend time with a small group from the cruise in Prague. Disclosure here: this cruise is sold out for the 2018 event. However, it looks as though there is another being offered in 2019, but always check back to the website to be certain slots don’t come available later.
Limestone City Gathering — June 9-10, 2018 (Kingston, Ontario)
This Canadian event is not a convention, billed instead as an Outlander Fan Event, for the fans. “This 2-day event embodies the spirit of a clan Gathering with all profits going to Youth Theatre groups in Kingston and France.” On Saturday, there is a Gathering dinner and Sunday, a three-hour river cruise. Personally, if I lived close, this would be one event I would love to attend!
Denver Comic Con — June 15-17, 2018 (Denver, Colorado)
To say they are excited to have Graham at this Con would be an understatement: ‘The War Chieftan of Clan MacKenzie is coming to DCC’18! We are proud to welcome Graham McTavish, who played Dougal on Starz’s hit series Outlander, is known for his portrayal of Dwalin in The Hobbit trilogy, and can be seen currently on AMC’s Preacher. Video gamers might recognize his voice from such games as Uncharted, Call of Duty, and Dante’s Inferno, to name a few.”
Want to share in their Graham excitement? Check out the webpage for times and ticket prices/availability.
The Land Con 2 — June 20 & July 1, 2018 (Paris, France)
This second-year event provides an opportunity to meet Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe and Steven Cree. At the time of this post’s publication, many of the tickets were sold out or limited. I would check back and join their Facebook page to keep up to date with any changes!
Starfury: The Highlanders 3 — August 10-12, 2018 (Birmingham, England)
This is the third year for this event, held at the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham, England. It promises to be filled with photo opps, autographs, panels and parties for attendees. Confirmed guests include Caitriona Balfe, Tobias Menzies, Richard Rankin, David Berry and Lauren Lyle, as of now. The site teases hope at the announcement of more confirmed actors, so click on the link and check back often!
Outlander Official Convention — August 17-19 2018 (Secaucus, New Jersey)
Outlander is coming to Jersey! Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Tobias Menzies, Graham McTavish, David Berry and Steven Cree have been announced for this event, held at the Meadowlands Exposition Center. As with all events, there are different levels of admittance and ticket prices along with meet and greets and photo/autograph opportunities with the stars from our favorite show. Just reading the website information has me all a flutter with the possibilities!
Wizard World Convention — August 25 & 26, 2018 (Rosemont, Illinois)
You say you’re in the Midwest US? Well, then the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center is the place for you in August! Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe are scheduled to attend the Wizard World Convention. General admission tickets and VIP tickets are available through the website.
Novel Adventures — August 31-September 13, 2018
This Outlander-inspired trip to Scotland will have you traveling to as many as 30 locations from the book and filming of the series. Novel group offers many different trips based on several novels, and Outlander trips are not lagging. I’m holding out hope that, one day, I’ll have a chance to go to The Gathering on The Ridge! Take a look at the webpage and see what goodies you might be able to attend!
If you are looking for a small group trip around Scotland, check out Outlander Tours of Scotland. Sam Thomson will be your contact for the tours. She provides many different adventures to satisfy a traveler’s ache for all things Outlander. There are walking tours, day tours, and 7- and 10-day tours, among others. Upcoming tours for 2018 can be found on her webpage. You can contact her through that page or through Facebook messenger.
These are just a sample of the many places you can go, but there are so many more… some even closer to home! If you don’t belong to a regional or state-specific Outlander fan group, we’d recommend you join one as they provide great opportunities for connecting with fellow Outlander fans in your neck of the woods, either online or in person! Google or search in Facebook for a list of nearby groups you can join. Who knows — you all may be able to have a gathering of your own, whether it be for a luncheon, a dinner/dance event, a whisky tasting, or even a bigger weekend event! Whatever it is, I would bet you will be sure to have a good time with others who love Outlander as much as you do. So, go out… meet up… and then let us know about YOUR adventure!
Are you planning to attend any Outlander events in 2018?
Also, if you are in a group that has an event upcoming, let us know about it! We may be able to help promote!
