I liked this sneak peek. it reals a lot in a short amount of time. First the house. I’m glad that Jamie and Claire will have another house. More people are coming to the ridge. There’s going to be illness and injury, and Claire needs a place for her herb garden and her surgery. So it wasn’t just for Brianna and Roger’s sake. And yes, they need to add on to the cabin. They have a baby now. And they’ll probably have more children later. They need the room. I think that Roger will come in handy for Jamie. He’s still a historian and probably knows a little about the war of the Regulation. Brianna might be able to inform Jamie about Revolutionary War which is coming in the near future. But this private little war barely enters the history books. It’s a footnote compared to other wars. But obviously there is much at stake. Roger is young and will be drafted into this war. John Grey is a former redcoat and living in Virginia, so he can’t be kept out of the conflict either. I think he’ll have to look the other way a lot with Murtaugh. What if he’s captured and brought into John Grey’s camp? Does John Grey grab the key to his cell? I don’t think they’ll kill off Murtaugh this season. Why spare him in the book, only to kill him off so soon. I’m not saying he’ll never go, but I predict that they’ll keep him for at least two more seasons. I think that from here on out, this will be more of an ensemble piece. But Jamie and Claire will always be the center. But stuff will happen to the people they love. They now have Fergus, Marsali, Bree, Roger, Murtaugh and Aunt Jocasta to worry about. Not to mention any children that come from these unions. No, I’m not counting those last two. I’m just saying that these two young couples will probably have more kids. And as they grow up, they too will become more complex. This is like the first season we’ll have with no scenes in the 20th century. There’s no one back there that is of any importance. I’m not saying that time-travel isn’t going to ever be a theme again, but it won’t be back for a while. Roger and Bree don’t know if Jem can travel or not, and if they have another child that could anchor them more. There’s a reason they don’t let kids disapparate in “Harry Potter,” until they’re sixteen. It’s mind over matter. Time-travel through the stones requires a certain amount of skill. I’m looking forward to seeing bonding time between Jamie and Roger. He probably does find Roger’s lack of skills incredulous. So many of those things he listed are basics in this century. I’m reminded of a speech that Derreck gave to Christina on “Grey’s Anatomy” in Season Seven. “I wouldn’t have picked you, to be a part of my personal life. But now that we’re family, that means I worry about you.” Jamie wouldn’t picked another historian from the future with no handy skills. But he wants Roger to do well, and I don’t doubt that they’ll grow to love each other.
Ned…as always…your comments are grounded, insightful and refreshing! Thank you for sharing your perspective. Also liked your Grey’s Anatomy and Harry Potter references! Two of my favorites. Moe C.
According to what I heard, they said the “sneak peak” was the first 4 minutes of the show. If it were a trailer, then Mary would get Claire – but Claire isn’t appearing in the first 4 minutes of the season, apparently.
Today, the art for Season 5 was released and i saw it on Twitter – beautiful!
Tomorrow they are releasing the official trailer on Good Morning America.
I’m so happy right now! LOL
